We understand death for the first time when he puts his hand upon one whom we love. ~Madame de Stael

Memento mori is a Latin phrase that may be translated as "Remember that you are mortal," "Remember you will die," "Remember that you must die," or "Remember your death". It names a genre of artistic creations that vary widely from one another, but which all share the same purpose, which is to remind people of their own mortality. [link]

Made with a vintage pocket watch case, vintage watch and clock gears and parts, vintage cameo, glass flowers and leaf, Swarovski rhinestones, suede ribbon, antiqued brass chain. The pocket watch case glass top can be removed with a few twists.

Adjustable 24”-31 1/2” long

I like all the little details in it, could stare at it for ages. My boyfriend said "oooh, that's cool!" too ;)

Thank you. I was talking to my mom who told me how she remembered people from her childhood who wore Memento Mori with photos of and locks of hair from dead ones. She said they were treasured by the owners. This is kind of a steampunk variation on the traditional genre.

Yes, definitely. I have a number of elements (pocket watches, gears, cameos, antique keys, and all kinds of random vintage items) that I will be working with in the days to come. Right now, I am in Las Vegas at Westercon [link] , a science fiction convention. Memento Mori is one of my entries in the Art Show. I had a number of similar themed piece for sale at my Etsy store [link] . They are not there right now because they are at the convention and I hope to sell some of them there. Those that don't sell will be posted on Etsy again after the convention early next week.

Thanks for visiting and for your kind comment! :peace:

Just to get an idea... How much would something like this cost?

Spectacular.... I'm speechless.

Thank you very much.

I probably spent about $35 in components. Asking price would be about $80.

The components were expensive because there were so many vintage pieces involved and Swarovski crystals.

Thanks again!
